The Youthful Embrace of Adult Braces: Why Adult Braces Make You Look Younger

Herman Kim

Braces, especially the metal kind, were once thought of as being solely in the domain of nerdy teenagers. Katie Perry pulled off a pretty good parody of a brace-faced nerd in her song, Last Friday Night. But those days are long gone. You have megastars like Tom Cruise and Cristiano Ronaldo to thank for that. Their braces straightened their teeth, giving them more attractive smiles.

However, that wasn't the only way that braces improved their image. Their braces doubtlessly improved their image whilst they were wearing them too. How could they do that, you ask? Simple, they made them look younger. If you are an adult with crooked teeth, don't fear braces. They may actually take years off your face.

People Associate Braces With Youthfulness

Okay, so this might seem obvious but surprisingly, this is a benefit that many adults overlook when considering how braces might affect their appearance. You could opt for invisible braces such as Invisalign or Incognito but then you would miss out on the youthfulness that only traditional braces can offer.

If you are in your late teens or early twenties and you go for traditional braces, you might find that people are taken aback when you mention how old you are. It is of course a trick of the mind because your brain immediately associates braces with teenagers, but it is one that you can take advantage of.

Go All Out When It Comes To Colour

Another way that traditional braces will take years off your face is with colour. From the get go, you can select the colour of the elastic ligatures affixed to each bracket. Bright colours like light blue or bright orange or green, will stand out in a positive way, and add to your youthful charms. If you are a more conservative person, you can go for something a little less loud such as black or silver.

The point is, you get to customize your colours and add a little coolness to the metal in your mouth.

Holiday Seasons Can Be Fun

If your braces are on for a year or more, you can have a little fun as each holiday season approaches. Black and orange goes well for Halloween, red and green reminds all those you are speaking to that it's Christmas time, and perhaps a blend of pink and purple might fit well with Valentine's day.

No, braces won't iron out the wrinkles or do away with crow's feet, but they will make you look younger, especially if you go crazy with the colours! Talk to a local dentist to get more information.

In this blog, I hope to share facts and figures about dentures and offer a little friendly advice along the way. Learn how many other Australians wear dentures, explore alternatives to dentures and figure out which options are best for you. Thanks for reading!
